Frequently Asked EZ lunch Program Questions  

How does the lunch EZ Program Work?

  • NO CASH is accepted in our Elementary program. To participate in the lunch program you must open an EZ Lunch Account.
  • Elementary Schools-Students have two options: 1.) Deposit money in EZ lunch account. 2.) Send a lunch from home. Parents will receive a low balance alert envelope or phone call or email when the account needs to be replenished.
  • Middle & High Schools- Student have three options: 1.) Deposit money in EZ lunch account 2.) Send cash to school daily 3.) Send a lunch from home. Students will be notified by cashier when account is low.
  • Each student is assigned a protected PIN#.
  • Computerized cash registers deduct the cost of purchases from the student’s account.
  • Students do not have to buy lunch daily only when they want to.
  • Parents can limit purchases to “Lunch Only”.
  • Refunds can be requested if the student graduates or withdraws from district.

How do I open a breakfast or lunch account for my child?

Complete the EZ lunch Account Deposit Form. A copy is included on bottom of this letter   and on all menus.

Enclose a check in the appropriate amount. Make check or money order payable to the “SOMBOE Cafeteria Fund”. Submit the deposit form in the following ways: Bring in person to Columbia High School Cafeteria, 17 Parker Avenue, Maplewood or Mail to the address with Attention: Food Service Department. Or send with your child to school.  Mark envelope “Lunch Program” child’s name and teacher. (No Cash)

All students in district are assigned an ID #  if you are using Mealpayplus for credit/debit card you need to have the id #

To perform transaction. Please call dining office after August 1, 2016 to receive your number for your child.

How to maintain your students account:

Parents are responsible for maintaining a positive balance in their student’s lunch account. Charges are not permitted. 

Parents must send a lunch from home when there is no money on account.

Two types accounts available:

Two types of accounts are available to parents to determine spending guidelines. Money can be designated for either or both accounts. By putting money into both accounts, parents can ensure their children buy a School Lunch and at the same time control the amount available for snacks.

What is a “General Account”?

If you want flexibility, placing money in the General Account allows the student to buy any item offered in the school cafeteria.

Purchase a School Lunch and additional items such as: second milk, extra slice pizza, nutritious snacks or juice items. Students eligible for free or reduced lunch may deposit money into the General Account to purchase additional items.

What is “Lunch Only Account”?     

This account is intended for parents who want to limit their student’s purchases to meals only. No snacks or additional items (second slice pizza) etc., may be purchased from this account.

How do I know when my child needs more funds in their account?

You may check at anytime by going www.mealpayplus.com

Elementary teachers receive an EZ lunch low balance alert envelopes to be sent home with the students at end of day

Middle/High Schools-Cashiers tell the students the balance is low hands them an envelope

Weekend Phone calls are made to your home

How To I make deposits to my child’s account?

Here’s how to set up an EZ Lunch Account:

Do you accept credit cards?

Make a prepayment into your student’s account using a credit card or debit card at www.mealpayplus.com or

Calling:  866-734-4694. (Fee for service) You will need student ID which is located on your letter or call the Food Service Department 973-762-5600 Ext. 1002

Does meal pay plus have associated cost?          

At no cost, MealpayPlus @ www.mealpayplus.com allows you to create a free, secured account to manage all of your student’s accounts. Check your student’s account balance. Monitor and receive notifications when the account reaches a low balance. (You will need your student ID located on letter.) If you are a newly registered and in need of student ID please call the Dining office at 973-762-5600 ext. 1002.
